Overview
Below you will find different solutions for delivering video content on Publications Office websites. Select the option that best suits your needs.
Commission Audiovisual Service
The Commission Audiovisual Service is a corporate solution that complies with EU data protection requirements (GDPR). You can upload videos to the Audiovisual Service and embed them on your website. Video submissions are reviewed by the Audiovisual Service prior to publishing.
How to use the Commission Audiovisual Service (for EU staff)
Self-hosted videos
Should there be no storage constraints, site editors may upload video files to their own server on europa.eu domains. Use the HTML video embed element (external link) to embed videos on web pages.
Note: We advise against using this method for sites hosted on the OP Portal due to storage constraints and performance issues since videos will not stream. Should you have specific needs, please contact us with requirement details so we may assist.
Third-party solutions
Site editors may also use YouTube, Vimeo or other third-party solutions to upload videos and embed them in their websites. Editors may only upload videos to these platforms and embed self-hosted videos in their websites to mitigate data protection aspects.
Privacy considerations
With this option, it is compulsory to implement the Commission Cookie Consent Kit for videos and other iframe content (for EU staff). If using YouTube, it is advised to also use the YouTube privacy enhanced mode (external link). Be sure to review and update, if necessary, your cookie policy to make sure it covers the third-party solutions employed.
OP Portal component solutions
For websites hosted on the OP Portal, if you upload videos to YouTube, editors may benefit from ready-made components to embed videos that already incorporate the privacy solutions outlined above:
